Covid update - Sunday
18th October 2020
?? Things are still going well, all things considered! Just 5 new cases reported statewide over the past 24 hours. Four are returned travellers already in quarantine while the remaining one is linked to the cluster at Oran Park in SW Sydney.
?? The Hunter-New England region has now gone 72 days without a locally-acquired case.
?? There’s an interesting meme doing the rounds on Facebook, which I’ve fact checked, and it might serve as a reminder of how well Australia and Australians are doing. Back in July on the day Victoria recorded 723 cases, the UK recorded 763. Two days ago, Victoria recorded two new cases, and the UK recorded 15,650. As much as we hate lockdowns and restrictions, even when they appear inconsistent and unnecessary, they work and allow the spread of this virus to be managed.
?? Victoria recorded just 2 new cases in the past 24 hours and no deaths. No new cases or deaths in any other State or Territory.
?? Australia's death toll remains at 904 with the NSW toll still at 55 and Victoria's at 816.
?? The number of active cases in NSW is 49. There are 137 active cases in Victoria, 4 in QLD, 19 in WA and 6 in SA. Tasmania, the ACT and NT remain Covid-free.
?? Please continue to stay safe, vigilant, maintain the social distancing, and wear a mask if you have to visit places where social distancing is difficult.
?? Don't forget, if you have any symptoms, however minor, please self-isolate and get tested as soon as possible.
