COVID UPDATE - Wednesday December 9
All looking good on the home front - no new community transmission anywhere in the country over the past 24 hours. Not so in the US where the figures continue to worsen - almost a million new cases and 10,000 deaths in the past five days.
The Hunter-New England region has now gone 124 days without a locally-acquired case.
NSW has recorded 2 new cases among returned overseas travellers in hotel quarantine over the past 24 hours.
Australia's death toll remains at 908 with 55 in NSW and 820 in Victoria.
NSW has just 1 active case. There are 20 active cases in QLD, 12 in WA, 3 in Tasmania and 15 in the NT. Victoria, SA and the ACT have zero. Please bear in mind that some States include overseas traveller cases in their 'active case' numbers, and some don't, which is why some States such as QLD, WA, TAS and the NT reflect numbers higher than Victoria, SA and NSW which don't. Regardless, those 'traveller cases' are quarantined and contained. In NSW, the travellers are included in the 'being treated' figure in the graphic below.
Please continue to stay safe, vigilant, maintain the social distancing, and wear a mask if you have to visit places where social distancing is difficult.
Don't forget, if you have any symptoms, however minor, please self-isolate and get tested as soon as possible.
