COVID UPDATE - Thursday December 17
THE LAST THING WE WANTED BEFORE CHRISTMAS was five more mystery cases of Covid-19, but unfortunately that's what we've got. NSW Health reported three new cases yesterday, which you may know about, and another two this morning (which will be included in tomorrow's official figures).
So we have FIVE new cases of community transmission in NSW - the bus driver, the two people from Sydney's northern beaches area, and another two people today on the northern beaches.
Contact tracing is under way and hopefully these new cases can be isolated. Please, if you have visited the northern beaches over the past week, get tested and remain vigilant for symptoms.
In better news, the Hunter-New England region has now gone 132 days without a locally-acquired case.
Australia's death toll remains at 908 with 55 in NSW and 820 in Victoria.
NSW also recorded a further 6 cases among the returned overseas travellers in hotel quarantine over the past 24 hours.
NSW now has 6 active cases and Victoria has 7. There are 15 active cases in QLD, 12 in WA, 4 in Tasmania and 7 in the NT. The ACT and SA have zero. Please bear in mind that all States except NSW include overseas traveller cases in their 'active case' numbers. In NSW, the traveller cases are included in the 'being treated' figure in the graphic below. Regardless, all of those cases are quarantined and contained.
Please continue to stay safe, vigilant, maintain the social distancing, and wear a mask if you have to visit places where social distancing is difficult.
Don't forget, if you have any symptoms, however minor, please self-isolate and get tested as soon as possible.
