Applications for this year's Regional Seniors Travel Card open today, January 18.
You are eligible for the $250 card if you live in Lake Macquarie and meet any of this criteria set by the State Government:
you're receiving the age pension
you're a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card Holder
you're receiving one of the following via the Department of Veterans' Affairs - age pension, service pension, disability pension under the Veterans' Entitlements Act, or War Widow(er) Pension.
You can apply online or by calling 13 77 88. You can also call into Service NSW at Toronto or Warners Bay, but please be mindful of the Covid restrictions and probably delays there.
I know there's been a lot of discussion about extending eligibility criteria to those on a standard disability pension (non Veterans) but the rules from last year have not been changed. I have raised those concerns with the Government but they have argued that not all people on the disability pension are seniors (for which this card was intended), and that a travel allowance is already built into the disability pension. Those are the rules as they stand.
