¿¿ IMPORTANT: SEVERE WEATHER WARNING ¿¿
¿ Despite the drenching we got yesterday, more severe weather is on the way. Parts of the local area including Toronto and Wangi recorded about 150mm of rain yesterday, but the Bureau is predicting that we may see more than that again throughout today and tomorrow.
¿ The Bureau has also issued a strong wind warning, which is a concern given that the ground is so wet, so I'd avoid taking shelter under trees etc.
¿ I've been in touch with Lake Macquarie police chief Danny Sullivan this morning. Danny is also the Local Emergency Operations Controller for our area. He is getting regular updates from the Bureau and other agencies and emergency responders are ready to go if needed.
¿ Please be aware that between 50mm and 100mm of rain per hour is possible at the height of this weather system so it's very likely we're going to get significantly wetter.
¿ Some flooding will occur locally in low-lying areas and some roads will be impacted so please be mindful of those things and take the appropriate precautions, like using common sense! Definitely don't drive through floodwaters.
¿ Any emergency updates will be posted here if required but I encourage people to monitor ABC 1233 Newcastle for updates and the SES pages NSW SES Lake Macquarie Unit NSW SES Cooranbong Unit. Local SES units can be contacted on 13 25 00, or phone 000 in the case of emergencies.
¿ Stay safe, don't take risks, and stay dry!
