¿ COVID UPDATE - Friday July 29 ¿
¿ There were 170 new cases of community transmission in the 24 hours to 8pm last night, which is a vast improvement on yesterday's numbers. Of those people, 52 had been doing essential work or shopping in the broader Sydney community while unknowingly infectious before their positive test (down from 88 yesterday). That's encouraging!
¿ There are 187 people now in NSW hospitals with Covid-related illness with 58 people in ICU and 24 on ventilators.
¿ I've been getting a lot of inquiries, mainly from confused Central Coast residents, about the 10km exercise/shopping rule. It's pretty simple. CC residents can shop or exercise anywhere in the Central Coast area. If they need to venture outside of the CC council area for essential shopping or exercise, they can only travel 10km from their HOME, not from the border (which pretty much excludes them from all of the major retail centres in Lake Macquarie).
¿ Further to yesterday's announcement regarding the redistribution of some Pfizer vaccines into Sydney, Hunter Health has confirmed that the decision will not impact on the operations of the Belmont hub, or any vaccinations already booked there.
¿ It’s now been 358 days without any community transmission in the Lake Macquarie-Newcastle area. I touch wood every day I update that figure!
¿ On another positive note, there has so far been no community transmission on the Central Coast to our south (beyond the five members of the same household which were reported on Monday). However, traces of Covid have been detected in the Toukley sewage treatment works, so NSW Health is encouraging high levels of vigilance and testing in the northern Central Coast area.
¿ Please remember to use common sense when moving around the place and get tested immediately if you experience any symptoms. Please stay vigilant and stay safe!
