¿ COVID UPDATE - Monday August 2 ¿
¿ Further to the Belmont vaccination booking issue at the weekend, I've been advised that 1a and 1b workers, along with some others with pre-existing health issues, should not have been included in the cancellations. ¿ NSW Health has told me they are going back through the cancellations to reschedule those appointments, and those people will be further advised. People not in those categories, but who had their bookings cancelled, will be sent a code this week which will enable them to rebook their appointments. I've also been told that while those new appointments will likely be several weeks later than originally booked, they will have priority over any other bookings at the Belmont hub. What a mess - they shouldn't have been cancelled in the first place, in line with what we were assured!
¿ In today's numbers, there were 207 new cases of community transmission in the 24 hours to 8pm last night. Of those people, 71 had been doing essential work or shopping in the broader Sydney community while unknowingly infectious before their positive test.
¿ There are 232 people now in NSW hospitals with Covid-related illness with 54 people in ICU and 25 on ventilators.
¿ It’s now been 361 days without any community transmission in the Lake Macquarie-Newcastle area, so we're certainly hanging in there.
¿ Please remember to use common sense when moving around the place and get tested immediately if you experience any symptoms. Please stay vigilant and stay safe.
