9.40am UPDATE:
¿ It has been confirmed that Maitland Christian School has also been closed for deep cleaning after a positive case of Covid was identified. Parents of students at the school have been notified.
¿ Rumours about Cooranbong Public School are not true. Cooranbong PS is open as normal. It has not been impacted at all either today or in recent days.
8.30am UPDATE
¿ Target Glendale has been confirmed as an exposure site. If you were there on Sunday between 8.30am and 1.30pm, you must get tested immediately and isolate until you have received a negative result.
¿ Please avoid Morisset and Doyalson at the moment unless you absolutely have to travel through there. Long lines for testing facilities. Police are there in large numbers and are getting things under control.
¿ Contact tracing of the three students and family members is well under way. We'll have a better idea of the broader situation when that is done. Any talk of an area lockdown is premature at this stage.
¿ I've also been updated by the Education dept. At this stage, they're hoping to have the schools cleaned today, but it's possible that both will be closed again tomorrow.
6.30am UPDATE
¿ IMPORTANT COVID UPDATE - Thursday August 5 ¿
¿ Good morning everyone. As I reported last night, Morisset High School and Lake Munmorah Public School will be closed today after confirmation of three Covid cases among the students - 1 at Morisset and 2 at Lake Munmorah. Somewhat fortunately, Lake Munmorah school has been closed to almost all students during the Central Coast lockdown over the past few weeks.
¿ All the information I have is listed below but I'll be getting updates throughout the morning and will be briefed again by the Education Minister and Health, so please stay tuned throughout the day.
¿ All students and staff at those schools have been asked to immediately isolate. I have not had advice regarding the families and household contacts of those students, but I think it would be a good idea if everyone stayed put until we received further health advice.
¿ I'm aware that Target at Glendale has been closed for deep cleaning but I am not aware of any other exposure sites at this stage. We will know more later this morning.
¿ Testing sites will be in high demand today, especially those at Morisset, Doyalson and Warners Bay. Please get tested if you experience even the mildest of symptoms.
¿ I know this is not the news we wanted, but we need to stay vigilant, not undertake any unnecessary travel and stay calm until we know more. Thanks, and please stay safe.
THIS IS ALL THE OFFICIAL ADVICE WE HAVE AT THE MOMENT FROM THE EDUCATION MINISTER:
We have just been advised of 3 confirmed cases of COVID-19 (siblings) at Morisset HS and Lake Munmorah PS who was on site and infectious. The schools are being made non-operational tomorrow so contact tracing and cleaning can occur.
Morisset High School
The NSW Department of Education has been advised by NSW Health that a student at our school has tested positive for COVID-19.
Our school will be non-operational effective immediately for the on-site attendance of staff and visitors to allow time for contact tracing and cleaning.
All staff and students are asked to self-isolate until you receive further advice.
NSW Health has requested anyone who has been unwell or if you develop any symptoms such as a fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, loss of smell/taste, muscle/joint pains, diarrhoea, nausea/vomiting or extreme tiredness to be tested at one of the COVID-19 testing clinics.
Further information about COVID-19 is available on the NSW Government website.
The NSW Department of Education will continue to work closely with NSW Health to ensure the health and safety of all students and staff is maintained.
The safety and wellbeing of our staff and students is of paramount importance to us at all times. As such we will continue to work closely with NSW Health to ensure that all necessary health advice is adhered to.
While we recognise this will be disruptive and inconvenient for families, it is important that we follow NSW Health advice and take all necessary precautions to minimise the risk of further transmission to support our community.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
