The State Government has varied existing rules around carpooling and caravan stays.

The first change allows a person to stay in a caravan park or camping ground if their place of residence is in another State or Territory and the person is unable to return to their place of residence because of border closures or restrictions on returning travellers in other jurisdictions.

The second permits carpooling for work purposes in regional NSW (i.e. other than Greater Sydney) in limited circumstances, being that an exempt person travels in an exempt vehicle.

  • An exempt person is a person who:
    • Lives in regional NSW and has not been in Greater Sydney in the previous 14 days, and
    • Has had at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine or is booked to have their first dose by no later than 10 September.
  • An exempt vehicle is a vehicle arranged by the employer to transport staff to and from their workplace and which uses the Service NSW QR code and which has open windows or a ventilation system that circulates air from the outside.
