¿ A bit of good news!
¿ Centennial Coal has informed me that they've withdrawn plans to haul more than a million tonnes of coal annually from its Myuna mine over local roads.
¿ You’d remember that the plan would have put more than 62,000 truck movements on Wangi and Awaba roads annually, and through two dangerous intersections, causing understandable anguish in the local community.
¿ I’m really happy that Centennial has found a better way of doing things. In acknowledging the community concern, Centennial told me they’ve had ongoing discussions with Origin Energy and the need to haul coal to Eraring power station by road “is now not required” and their application has been withdrawn.
¿ While I’m grateful to Centennial for listening to us and working towards this outcome, I’m also really grateful to the local community who signed the petition and demanded better.
Strike another one up for common sense!
