51 NEW LOCAL CASES
COVID UPDATE - 11.25am Saturday October 16
There were 51 new cases in the Hunter Health district in the 24 hours to 8pm, including 8 in Lake Macquarie. These new cases take the total number in the latest Hunter outbreak to 2125.
Of those new cases :

7 are from Port Stephens LGA
- 3 in Raymond Terrace
- 1 in Karuah

26 local people are being cared for in hospital. Four are in ICU.
STATUS AND CLOSE CONTACTS: Of those new cases, 34 are linked, 9 are unlinked and 8 are still under investigation. Further, 21 were infectious in the community, while 22 were isolating while infectious and the remaining 8 are still under investigation. We now have 1121 active cases in the HNE health region.
EXPOSURE SITES: New exposure sites named by HNE Health overnight include sites at East Maitland, Wallsend and Hawks Nest. Full details on the new sites (including a link to the full list at NSW Health) are on my website HERE.
STATEWIDE:
- 91.7% of people aged 16+ have had one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine
- 78.8% of people aged 16+ have had two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine
- 66,311 tests
- 319 new locally acquired cases
- 2 new overseas acquired cases
- 652 people in hospital
- 138 people in ICU
- 2 deaths
POP-UP VAX CLINIC AT TORONTO: Just a reminder that there will be a pop-up Pfizer vaccination clinic at Toronto tomorrow (Sunday October 17). It will be held at the Toronto Community Health centre, 6 James St from 10am to 2pm. Open to everyone aged 12+, but children 12-15 must be accompanied by an adult.
WALK-IN VAX CLINIC FOR EDUCATORS: Hunter Health will host a walk-in vax clinic at the Belmont hub this Sunday for workers across all education sectors including early childhood, pre-school, school, VET and university. No appointments necessary, just walk in between 8am to 2.45pm. Wear a mask, bring evidence of your workplace and a form of ID.
TESTING: Testing remains a really important part of our battle with Covid-19. Please don't be complacent. If you experience any symptoms, get tested as soon as possible.
