Covid update - Wednesday

The BAD news is that 424 new cases have been recorded in the Hunter Health district over the past 24 hours, including 76 in Lake Macquarie. The GOOD news is that our hospitalisation and death rates are relatively low
¿ 11am COVID UPDATE - WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 15
¿ The BAD news is that 424 new cases have been recorded in the Hunter Health district over the past 24 hours, including 76 in Lake Macquarie.
¿ The GOOD news is that our hospitalisation and death rates are relatively low - just 7 people are currently being treated for Covid in our local hospitals (166 statewide), with 3 in ICU (24 statewide). No deaths in the past 24 hours (just 1 statewide).
¿ Health Minister Brad Hazzard and Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant are scheduled to provide a further update at midday.
¿ Lower Hunter: 415 new cases.
¿ Hunter health district: 424 new cases.
¿ Statewide: 1360 new cases.
¿ Of the new cases in the health district:
- 243 are from Newcastle LGA
- 76 are from Lake Macquarie LGA
- 69 are from Maitland LGA
- 18 are from Port Stephens LGA
- 7 are from Cessnock LGA
- 4 are from Mid Coast LGA
- 2 are from Moree Plains LGA
- 2 are from Singleton LGA
- 2 are from Tamworth Regional LGA
- 1 is from Armidale Regional LGA
¿ STATEWIDE
- 94.8% of people aged 16+ have had one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine
- 93.2% of people aged 16+ have had two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine
- 81.4% of people aged 12-15 have had one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine
- 77.8% of people aged 12-15 have had two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine
- 104,501 tests
- 1,360 total new cases
- 166 people in hospital
- 24 people in ICU
- 1 death
¿ LOCKDOWN: There is little to no chance that a lockdown is imminent. The Govt has made it very clear that lockdowns will only occur if our hospital system becomes over run. At the moment, it is not, so our high vaccination rate is doing its job.

¿ TESTING: Testing remains a really important part of our battle with Covid-19. Please don't be complacent. If you experience any symptoms, get tested as soon as possible. Given the latest news, there are delays at all local testing centres and some people are waiting more than two hours.
