MP warns of reduced speed limits

LAKE Macquarie MP Greg Piper has warned local motorists that Marconi Road at Morisset/Bonnells Bay is not the only local road to be subject to a reduced speed limit. 

“I was disappointed that the RMS chose to proceed with a reduction of the speed limit on Marconi Road rather than address some of those issues that led to a call for lower speed limits in the first place,” Mr Piper said. 

“The overwhelming view in the community is that a competent driver can easily negotiate that road safely at 70kmh. Most, if not all accidents on the road have been due to speeds well beyond the speed limit.”

RMS will implement the new speed limit this year.

“Meanwhile, residents of Arcadia Vale and Wangi Wangi should also be mindful of the fact that the speed limit on Donnelly Road has also been dropped from 70kmh to 60kmh,” the independent MP said.
