Carla Edwards
I recognise Lake Macquarie photojournalist Carla Edwards for bringing her powerful exhibition HERStory: Remembering Australia's Military Women to the Fountain Court, NSW Parliament House. I was proud to launch the display in April, and to see these portraits and recorded stories take their place where they belong—at the heart of our public record. HERStory began when Carla noticed how little was seen or said about the women who served our country across war, peacekeeping, humanitarian work and defence life. So far, more than 250 women have shared their time and experiences, building a growing national archive. The Parliament House exhibition featured 22 women with New South Wales connections, from the Second World War to today's operations, including servicewomen from the Navy, Army and Airforce. Carla's work is respectful, honest and overdue, and it ensures that generations of women in uniform are remembered with the visibility and gratitude they have earned. I look forward to seeing HERStory continue to grow as more women come forward, more stories are recorded, and more exhibitions are shown across the country. If you get the chance to see this exhibition, it is certainly worth your time.
