For 25 years, Dane Pickering has been a steady presence in the NSW Rural Fire Service, serving his community with dedication and a willingness to step forward when it matters most. Starting with Pearl Beach Brigade before transferring to Wyee Point in 2010, Dane has built a reputation as a respected and reliable volunteer, contributing on the fireground and behind the scenes. He has qualified through to Crew Leader and developed specialist skills in Remote Area Firefighting, Aviation Operations and Incident Scene Preservation. As an Enterprise Skills Trainer and Assessor, he has also helped strengthen capability across the district. Dane has also served in key brigade roles including Deputy Captain, Brigade Secretary, Fundraising Officer and Permit Officer, reflecting his commitment to fellow members and the wider community. His service has been recognised through honours including the Premier's Bushfire Emergency Citation, the RFS Unit Citation for Service and the National Emergency Medal. Most recently, he received the NSW RFS Long Service Medal 1st Clasp at the 2026 Central Coast Volunteer Appreciation Day and Medal Presentation.
