Lake Macquarie was hit hard by severe weather and flooding in May, with the SES Lake Macquarie Cluster responding to 806 requests for help, including 15 flood rescues and one evacuation.

The SES Lake Macquarie City Unit played a crucial role during this natural disaster, completing 514 of those jobs and assisting in life-saving rescues. Their dedication and courage during such a trying time were truly remarkable.

I want to sincerely acknowledge and thank every member of the Lake Macquarie Unit for their tireless efforts, as well as Lake Macquarie Cluster Local Commander, Chief Inspector Christine Speer, for her exceptional leadership and coordination during this emergency.

Between the 15th and 24th of May, volunteers worked day and night filling and distributing sandbags, helping protect properties, responding to urgent calls, and supporting residents in need. Many did so while their own homes were under threat.

On behalf of the entire Lake Macquarie community thank you for stepping up when it mattered most.
