Politics isn't a subject you'd typically expect to find in a children's book, but Lake Macquarie author/illustrator Sheree Chambers has managed to produce a picture book on democracy that's informative, factual and fun. Titled 'You Can Be Prime Minister', Sheree's book employs literary tactics such as rhyme, rhythm and fun illustrations to educate young readers about political processes. It empowers and encourages children to dream boldly and understand leadership roles, including the highest office in the land, are within their reach.

I recently had the privilege of joining Sheree at the launch and public reading of her book at Toronto Library, alongside my Parliamentary colleague the Honourable Yasmin Catley MP. It was great seeing the faces of the young audience captivated by the subject, I was inspired to purchase several books to gift to local schools for their libraries. Sheree is also the author of the Ella's Adventure Series, which includes titles such as 'Ella Arrives in Australia', 'Ella Boils a Billy' and 'Ella Chases a Cassowary'.

Through her books, Sheree celebrates all things Australian, while educating children about our native wildlife, landscapes, history and culture. Congratulations Sheree on your excellent books.
