The Stay Foundation

People in crisis are often forced to make the heartbreaking decision of surrendering their pets, just when the unconditional love and support of their animals is most needed. This reality is experienced by too many in our community, either due to cost-of-living pressures, the threat of homelessness, domestic violence, or other challenges. I acknowledge the work of The Stay Foundation. This relatively new Lake Macquarie-based charity launched in August 2024 when they recognised a gap in animal welfare support. The foundation's mission is to help people and pets remain together in their homes, where they're safe and secure, and avoiding the trauma of shelters. So far, the foundation has provided 27,250 meals, 122 microchips and desexed 121 pets. They have also delivered emergency boarding, general supplies, bedding, toys, and essential vet care. Recently, supported by local organisations, the Stay Foundation hosted the inaugural Westlakes Community Connect Day. Under the guidance of Jesse Reinhard, the event was a great success and offered free microchipping, vet checks, supplies, and connection to local support services. Thanks to everyone at the Stay Foundation for their dedication to caring for our two- and four-legged community members.
