For more than a decade, Toronto Area Sustainable Neighbourhood Group volunteers have worked tirelessly to improve Toronto, Carey Bay, Coal Point and Kilaben Bay, helping make these communities more sustainable places to live, work and play. Established in 2012, the group developed a Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Plan that brought residents, schools, businesses and community organisations together to create a shared vision for a cleaner, greener and more connected area. Their vision has been to foster pride in the neighbourhood, protect natural beauty and cultural heritage, encourage sustainable growth and tourism, and build an environmentally aware community. The group has delivered practical environmental and community projects that have reduced waste, supported sustainable living and strengthened local pride. They have also played an important role in beautifying the Toronto town centre through community mural projects that have brightened streetscapes and discouraged graffiti. Recently, the group helped facilitate the striking Lake and Land Mural at Simply Pharmacy. Created by Aboriginal artists Maree Simon, Les Ahoy, Jason Mackenzie and Lacey Simon, the mural has transformed a former graffiti hot spot into a vibrant public artwork. Thank you to all these amazing volunteers.
