For more than 30 years, the Westlakes Athletic Club has provided a safe and encouraging haven for anyone and everyone interested in athletics, regardless of age or ability, at the Wangi Oval. This spirit of inclusiveness and community values recently saw the club secure the 2025 Lake Macquarie Community Group Award in recognition of the positive impact it has on the local community.

The Club champions the pursuit of personal bests and community spirit, bringing together individuals and families in a shared love of sport and achievement. All athletes are encouraged to improve their personal best times, with points awarded not for winning, but for improving previous results. The club's philosophy is "It's not about winning, it's about having fun and trying your very best." Over the past two years, the club's membership has doubled, and this growth has been supported by investments in equipment and facilities.
