Wyee Point Rural Fire Brigade
As we inch closer to the bushfire season, I congratulate the Wyee Point Rural Fire Brigade for taking proactive action to ensure their station can remain operational during anticipated summer-time blackouts. Power outages are a real concern in Lake Macquarie during the warmer months, especially during bushfires and heatwaves when there is increased demand on the electricity grid. So it was pleasing to see the forethought of volunteers who applied for $27,100 in funding under the NSW Government's Community Building Partnerships program to install a solar photovoltaic system and battery storage at their station. During fires, floods, road accidents and other emergencies Wyee Point volunteers are on the ground providing physical support, but importantly, they are also online keeping the community updated and offering advice via social media. This clean energy system will ensure that even if the power goes out, the fire brigade will be able to provide an uninterrupted response to incidents and emergencies. I thank the volunteers, not only for all that they do during times of emergency, but also for their forethought and many hours spent on the lengthy grant application process.
