The popular Speers Point jetty has reopened after a $1.5 million rebuild.

Lake Macquarie state MP Greg Piper and deputy mayor Nick Jones cut the ribbon on the lake's latest piece of upgraded maritime infrastructure on Thursday.

The council funded the majority of design and construction costs, but received a $550,000 grant from Transport for NSW for the project as part of the government's Boating Now program.

The 83-metre long jetty features ladders, taps, handrails and rubber guards for protection when vessels berth at its L-shaped end.

Solar lights on the jetty also dim and brighten depending on whether people are walking along it.

"This new jetty is beautifully constructed and provides safe access to a range of water craft, large and small," Mr Piper said.
