Really happy to see the former Rathmines Community Hall reopened today and be reborn as Rathmines Theatre again.

The original building was established in the 1940s and served as a theatre and gymnasium for the RAAF base nearby, but later became the community hall when the council took it over in the 60s.

It's been a long time closed after a series of problems, but a $3.3m renovation by Lake Macquarie council which was jointly funded with the State Government has produced a fantastic new theatre. It's also home to a local heritage centre.

Really thrilled with the result. The council will be taking small group tours through the theatre next month (phone 4921-0556 to book).
