New air quality monitor for Lake Macquarie

Residents of Lake Macquarie will soon have access to local air quality information following the installation of a new $320,000 air quality monitoring station.
Environment Minister Matt Kean said the monitoring station in Morisset East, will deliver accurate, easily accessible air quality information to the local community and beyond.
“We’ve listened to the residents of Lake Macquarie who were concerned about air quality in their local area, in response we’ve installed this new state-of-the-art air quality monitoring station,” Mr Kean said.
“This new station will provide the communities around Lake Macquarie with accurate, near-real-time data about air quality in their area.”
With construction now complete, it is expected the data will be easily accessible online by next week and will ensure residents can get the information they need on pollution levels to make informed decisions about how to manage potential health impacts.
Member for Lake Macquarie Greg Piper said he was pleased that the monitor will provide independent air quality data for the local community.
“It’s really important that the community knows what’s in the air they’re breathing, and has faith in the process and accuracy of that data,” Mr Piper said.
“The monitor has been long overdue in this area, and I’m very grateful to Environment and Energy Minister Matt Kean for making it happen.”
The NSW Air Quality Monitoring Network collects information from 93 stations across the state, providing up-to-date information on air quality.
The NSW Government is committed to improving air quality and the Lake Macquarie station is the latest in a series of air quality monitoring additions over the past several years.
