¿ COORANBONG INTERSECTION UPGRADE ¿
We're finally going to see a significant upgrade and traffic lights at the intersection of Alton Rd, Freemans Drive and Central Road at Cooranbong.
The State Government has confirmed it will contribute $4.95m towards the cost of the lights and associated roadworks.
It's been a complex problem for some time, made more difficult by a planning agreement the council had with the developer of the nearby Watagan Park estate, but I'm very pleased that a good outcome has been negotiated and things can move forward.
I want to acknowledge the great work of Cooranbong Business & Community Alliance and Lake Macquarie City Council (particularly David Hughes) for the work they've done on this, and also the Regional Roads Minister Paul Toole MP who listened to us and got us a great result.
¿ UPDATE ON COORANBONG BRIDGE ¿
Further to my post yesterday, Lake council has now called for tenders for the construction work. All going well, work will start mid-year and take 3-6 months to complete.
I know it's been a frustrating wait for the 8000 vehicles which cross that bridge daily, but it's been a very complex problem.
I'm also aware of rumours that the bridge may have to close for a while. This is simply not known yet. I would oppose the bridge being closed for any amount of time, but the truth is that we won't know if it needs to be closed at all until construction tenders are in.
Will keep you posted.
