Communities come together for Anzac Day

Not all Anzac Day services could go ahead as normal again this year, but at those which did, thousands gathered to greet the dawn and remember those who fought, and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country and way of life.

Not all Anzac Day services could go ahead as normal again this year, but at those which did, thousands gathered to greet the dawn and remember those who fought, and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country and way of life.

I started the day by attending the inspiring dawn service at Wangi Wangi. It was wonderful to see so many local residents and visitors joining together to share in a moving ceremony.

Then I attended the Southlakes (Morisset) service later in the morning. This service was held at Dora Creek Workers Club this year because the memorial has been temporarily shifted from its traditional place at Morisset while the Cedar Mill development takes place.

At lunchtime I attended the service at Catalina Park at Rathmines, the former RAAF base which served as the largest flying boat base in the Southern Hemisphere during WW2.

Again, it was fantastic to see the community come together to remember and honour those who have served in the defence of our nation.

All things going well with the Covid-19 pandemic and the vaccination program, I can't wait to see all our local Anzac Day services get back to normal next year.

Lest We Forget.
