¿ COVID UPDATE - Tuesday July 20 ¿
¿ In case you've missed the news and earlier posts, the Coles Express service station on Thomas Street at Wallsend has been identified as a Covid exposure site. This is the westbound servo (heading out to the motorway link road). Anyone who attended that servo between 2.45pm and 3pm on Saturday July 17 is a casual contact who must immediately get tested and self-isolate until a negative result is received. 'Exposure site' means it was merely visited by someone - a removalist from the Greater Sydney area - who has since been confirmed as having Covid. It does not mean that there has been community transmission at the site. An employee at the servo has been tested and is awaiting a result, and others who were identified as being in the store at the time have been notified by HNE Health.
¿ In the latest figures announced by the Premier this morning, Sydney recorded 78 new cases of community transmission in the 24 hours to 8pm. Of those, 27 were active in the Sydney community while infectious and that is still a great concern.
¿ We have 95 people being treated for Covid-19 in NSW hospitals, and 27 are in ICU. Sadly, NSW recorded another Covid-related death yesterday, a woman in her 50s from SW Sydney.
¿ Our local area has now gone 348 days without a case of community transmission. Here's hoping we can get to the 'one year' mark and beyond!
¿ Meanwhile, Victoria has today announced that its current lockdown will be extended by a week. South Australia has also announced today that it will enter a 7-day lockdown from 6pm today.
¿ Please remember to use common sense when moving around the place and getting tested if you experience any symptoms. Please stay vigilant and stay safe!
