¿ COVID UPDATE - 11am Tuesday October 12
¿ Starting with a bit of good news today - the number of cases across the State dropped to 360 over the past 24 hours. Also, 90.4% of the population aged 16+ have now received their first vaccination, with 74% fully dosed. We are not out of the woods yet with infection numbers expected to rise again as the State continues to open up, but we're in a pretty good position with our own local vaccination rates inching towards 70% fully dosed throughout Lake Macquarie. (New local vax data arrives today so I'll post later this afternoon.)
¿ Of those 360 new cases, 47 were in the Hunter health district, including 11 in Lake Macquarie. These new cases take the total number in the latest Hunter outbreak to 1815.
¿ Of today's new cases in the Hunter-New England health district:
¿ 13 are from Maitland LGA
- 6 in Woodberry
- 2 in Telarah
- 2 in Rutherford
- 2 in Millers Forest
- 1 in East Maitland
¿ 11 are from Lake Macquarie LGA
- 3 in Bolton Point
- 1 in Belmont South
- 1 in Gateshead
- 1 in Hillsborough
- 1 in Macquarie Hills
- 1 in Marks Point
- 1 in Toronto
- 1 in West Wallsend
- 1 in Croudace Bay
¿ 9 are from Cessnock LGA
- 7 in Weston
- 2 in Bellbird
¿ 6 are from Newcastle LGA

- 1 in Bar Beach

- 1 in Hamilton South

¿ 23 local people are being cared for in hospital. Four are in ICU.
¿ STATUS AND CLOSE CONTACTS: Of those new cases, 31 are linked, 13 are unlinked and 3 are still under investigation. Further, 18 were infectious in the community, while 26 were isolating while infectious and the remaining 3 are still under investigation. We have 1102 active cases in the Hunter Region.
¿ EXPOSURE SITES: Subway at Warners Bay is among just a handful of new exposure sites named by HNE Health overnight. There are also new sites at Aberdeen, Scone and Singleton. More details on the new sites (including a link to the full list at NSW Health) are on my website HERE.
¿ POP-UP VAX CLINIC AT MORISSET: Hunter Health will be holding a pop-up vaccination clinic at Morisset tomorrow (Wednesday), October 13, in the Masonic Hall at 5 Yambo Street from 10am to 3pm. No appointment is necessary, you just have to walk up. Open to everyone aged 12+, but children 12-15 must be accompanied by an adult. (All Pfizer vax).

- 90.4% of people aged 16+ have had one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine
- 74% of people aged 16+ have had two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine
- 88,988 tests
- 360 new locally acquired cases
- 0 new overseas acquired cases
- 360 new total cases
- 766 people in hospital
- 155 people in ICU
- 5 deaths
¿ TESTING: Testing remains a really important part of our battle with Covid-19. Please don't be complacent. If you experience any symptoms, get tested as soon as possible.
