UPDATE ON LAKE MACQUARIE FISH KILL
Investigations into the mystery fish kill at Mannering Park in Lake Macquarie are continuing this week, but preliminary tests have ruled out the possibility that the fish were killed by heavy metals.
The EPA's lab tests for the full suite of metals and some pesticides found levels below normal marine water quality guidelines. Levels of pH and electrical conductivity are also within normal limits.
The EPA is still carrying out further tests and those results should be available later this week, but so far all the results are pointing towards a natural occurrence - the most likely being a lack of oxygen in the water, possibly caused by the recent flooding.
