Our Indonesian community celebrates Independence Day
12th September 2022
It was an honour to have been a special guest of the Consul-General of Indonesia last night in Sydney to celebrate the 77th anniversary of Indonesia’s independence.
I have for many years taken a keen interest in Indonesian politics, culture and its people.
Last night’s function was held on board the magnificent 110-metre KRI Bima Suci which is an Indonesian Navy ship used for the training of naval cadets and for goodwill visits to other countries. This was its maiden voyage to Sydney.
We were joined on board by the Chief of Navy Australia Mark Hammond among a host of other dignitaries. My thanks to Indonesian Consul General and friend Pak Vedi Kurnia Buana and also to the Indonesian Australian Community – Newcastle for which I am honoured to be Patron.
