Tribute to Graeme Hooper
21st September 2023
Mr GREG PIPER (Lake Macquarie) (16:42): I acknowledge the recent passing of a person who was not only my friend but a friend to many people throughout Lake Macquarie, Graeme Hooper. Affectionately known as Hoops, Graeme was a big man with a big heart and dedicated his life to the Lake Macquarie community. Graeme was with Lake Macquarie City Council as a business development manager for many years and in that role was always seeking to help others. Most notably, he committed himself to the betterment of the community through his other family, Rotary International, an organisation to which he dedicated nearly 50 years of his life. Earlier this year Graeme also took on the role of finance director for ShelterBox Australia, another charitable group that he and his wife, Sue, were passionate about. Graeme lived his life to the fullest since retirement as he and Sue travelled all over the world together while working tirelessly in their senior Rotary roles. My wife, Lyn, and I send our sincere condolences to Sue, as well as to Graeme's children Brendan and Allison, daughter-in-law Fiona, grandchildren Abigail and Angus, sister Karin and brother-in-law Adrian, and all of his friends who will miss him terribly.
