Hunter Parvovirus outbreak in Lake Macquarie

Lake Macquarie council's kennel facility has had two confirmed cases of highly contagious parvovirus with a third suspected case.

The kennel has been forced to shut its doors to surrenders until it can establish separate accommodation on-site for emergency admissions and no visitors are allowed during this time.

Two dogs have had to be euthanised due to the severity of their illness. The staff at the facility are undertaking deep cleaning and managing the situation to return the shelter to normal operations over the coming days.

It is advised dog owners limit the amount of interaction between furry friends and keep on top of monitoring symptoms if parvovirus is suspected.
