Blackrock Motorsport Resort
26th March 2024
Australia's first motorsport resort is being built on the former Rhondda Colliery site at Wakefield.
This privately funded $95 million project will create hundreds of local jobs during both its construction and operational phase.
The motorsport park will include a 5.25 kilometre race track built to international standards, accommodation, a driver training facility, adventure tourism, cafe and a go-kart course.
I joined with Natural Resources Minister Courtney Houssos, Minister for the Hunter Yasmin Catley MP, Cr Kay Fraser - Lake Macquarie Mayor and Black Rock Motor Resort Chief Executive Tony Palmer at the project's ceremonial turning of the sod today, and couldn't resist a quick whip around the track!
It's great to see former mine sites being not only remediated but also put to such good use with the facility expected to attract motor enthusiasts from around the world.
The Black Rock Motor Resort should be up and racing in 2026 and fully functional by 2027.
