National Family and Domestic Violence Rememberance Day
1st May 2024
Alarmingly rates of domestic violence and family violence are increasing in NSW and Australia. As a state and a nation, we are failing victims, and we have to do more.
We need work together to address this crisis and all options must be on the table.
With some reservation I would support a royal commission into domestic and family violence as long as other obvious actions aren't delayed by this process. For example, we need to review and address bail laws and immediately increase funding to support services for victim-survivors in NSW and in the Hunter.
Today I remember those who have lost their lives to domestic and family violence and commit to working with the Government to address this crisis.
If you or someone you know is affected by domestic or family violence help is available. 1800RESPECT offers free support, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
