NAIDOC Week 2024
1st July 2024
NAIDOC week celebrations got off to a smoking start at Fennell Bay Public School, with a special ceremony performed by Uncle Tony Ridgeway from Biripi Country.
Infants students and the choral choir added a really nice musical touch, singing The River is Flowing and Native Bee in both Aboriginal and English languages.
The visibility of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture was on display with the unveiling of a new artwork depicting Uncle Gary Simon's story of Boomerang Mountain told by his wife Nan.
Thank you to Principal Lenise Hollis for inviting me along today.
This year's NAIDOC theme is "Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud" and I look forward to many other NAIDOC Week celebrations across the Lake Macquarie Community.
