Infrastructure to Unlock Housing Potential and Ease Traffic in Morisset

13th November 2024

The Minns Labor Government is delivering new infrastructure to the Lake Macquarie community to unlock more homes and build better communities.
Lake Macquarie is a key growth area, and the NSW Government is making sure new homes are being built alongside supporting infrastructure through the State Voluntary Planning Agreement Funding Program (SVPA Funding Program).
The SVPA Funding Program was established to support the delivery of public amenities and services, affordable housing, transport infrastructure, and conservation works.
Under the program, $2.5 million is being invested into the construction of an intersection upgrade, including four-legged roundabout at Wyee Road and Alliance Avenue at Morisset.
The delivery of these projects is part of the Minns Labor Government’s plan to build a better NSW with more homes and services, so young people, families and workers have somewhere to live.
Across NSW, the SVPA program will deliver nearly $56 million to key growth areas from the NSW Government with co-contributions of $30 million from local councils.
The new infrastructure is expected to unlock an additional 29,000 homes across the state as the NSW Government works towards its goal of 377,000 new homes under the National Housing Accord.

Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said:
“Intersections, pedestrian crossings, median islands and drainage are not just essential to support the functions of our daily lives, they are also the foundations on which successful housing developments are built.
“We have already provided $150 million of infrastructure funding to support new homes and business areas across NSW through the State Voluntary Planning Agreement (SVPA) funding program.”

Member for Lake Macquarie, Greg Piper said:
"With construction underway on a nearby over 55s lifestyle village and 30,000 person concert venue, we can expect heavy use of the intersection at Wyee Road and Alliance Avenue. This upgrade will help ensure the intersection is safe and can better manage the ballooning number of road users.
"Morisset is experiencing large-scale growth in housing and commercial and industrial precincts. This development must be supported by reliable, efficient and integrated transport infrastructure.
"Along with frustrated local residents I have been calling for action to address growing traffic issues in this area for a long time. This funding is welcome news and I look forward to other projects which will address the transport needs of Lake Macquarie residents and visitors."
