I really enjoyed meeting with students from Heritage College Lake Macquarie and talking with them about my career.
When I was in high school, I never would have thought I would become a politician. I worked as a nurse in mental health and disability at Morisset Hospital for 26 years. It was during this time I was elected to Lake Macquarie City Council as a councillor, before becoming Mayor in 2004. I was then elected as the Independent member for Lake Macquarie in 2007 and as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly in 2023.
My advice to them was to explore every opportunity that comes their way, because you never know where life will lead you.
