EPIC rethinking the role of plastics

The Environmental Plastic Innovation Cluster, very fittingly known as EPIC, is rethinking the role of plastics.

I recently toured the EPIC laboratory at the University of Newcastle to learn more about their research.

Dr Thava Palanisami and his team are working to replace plastic products with safe, suitable alternatives. They're also looking to tackle the pervasive issue of textile waste through their research on the recovery of cotton from post-consumer textiles.

From my earliest days in politics, I've been concerned with how we can address the impacts of plastic pollution on our natural environment.

I support the work of EPIC, whose vital research on remediating plastic-impacted environments and innovative plastic alternatives seeks to do just that.
