Community Flood Forum
31st May 2025
Haven't we had a rough run with the weather lately?
This afternoon I attended a Community Flood Forum at Dora Creek to meet with emergency services and those most impacted by the storms and floods.
I'd like to officially acknowledge and thank the NSW SES Cooranbong Unit, the NSW SES Lake Macquarie Unit, the Dora Creek Rural Fire Brigade, Cooranbong RFS and Fire+Rescue NSW Station 383 Morisset for all they did to help our community during this natural disaster.
Many members of these organisations left their own flooded homes and families behind, to come to the aid of others.
To hear about the community resilience and response during this crisis has been inspirational. Neighbours banded together to help each other and 15 "spontaneous volunteers" (members of the public) pitched in to help the SES.
Today's community forum was all about understanding what worked and was helpful during the floods, what could have been done better and any ongoing concerns people have now that we are in the recovery phase.
