We need a master plan for the Morisset Hospital site
20th July 2025
NSW Health hasn’t prepared a master plan for the Morisset Hospital precinct, and I’m worried about its future.
We need a master plan. Without one, the site will be vandalised and some of Lake Macquarie’s most important heritage buildings - already falling into disrepair despite being under the care of NSW Health - will be all but abandoned.
Failure to plan is also a plan to fail for the Morisset Sports Facility. There’s a real chance that, without a master plan, the money allocated to the project is eaten up by enabling works.
The people of Lake Macquarie deserve a new sport and recreation facility after all these years, and certainty about what will happen to the Hospital after supporting its operation for over 100 years.
This site should be put to a good use which respects its natural and cultural value and leaves a positive legacy for the community.
I’ve called on the Government to urgently prepare a master plan for the heritage-listed Morisset Hospital precinct, and will continue to press the Minister and NSW Health about this issue.
