Cooranbong boasts Ausgrid's largest community battery
14th August 2025
Cooranbong is now home to Ausgrid's largest community battery, and locals in southern Lake Macquarie are set to save.
This morning, I joined Ausgrid and Origin Energy, along with Dan Repacholi MP Federal member for the Hunter, to launch the 5MW Cooranbong Community Battery.
The battery absorbs excess solar power during the day and shares it back to the grid during peak times to increase network resilience, support more renewables and drive down energy costs.
Eligible resident in southern Lake Macquarie can save around $200/year by signing up to Energy Storage as a Service (ESaaS) through retailers Origin Energy and EnergyAustralia.
It doesn't matter if you own or rent, have rooftop solar, or live in a house or strata property – you can access the benefits of energy storage, without upfront costs.
As NSW moves away from coal-fired power generation, community batteries play an increasingly important role in meeting our energy needs.
This is an asset to Lake Macquarie and I acknowledge Ausgrid and their retail partners for investing in our community.
