Today, I joined with Minister for Roads and Minister for Regional Transport Jenny Aitchison MP, Member for Port Stephens Kate Washington MP, and Clayton Barr MP, Member for Cessnock for the release of the Hunter Strategic Integrated Transport Plan - a 20 year roadmap to better connect our region.

The plan identifies a clear set of long-term road and transport priorities, and works to guide investment in one of Australia's fastest growing regions.

The plan also outlines measures that need to be taken to increase public transport use.

The plan's recommendations include:

More reliable and frequent train services on the Hunter Line, extended to Singleton and Muswellbrook.

More bus services across both peak and off-peak times.

Upgrades to more than 20 key road corridors, including Newcastle Link Road, Cessnock Road and the Morisset M1 interchange.

Better links to Newcastle Airport, universities and key hubs.

Stronger freight connections from the Port of Newcastle to Renewable Energy Zones.

Safer roads through bridge replacements and Pacific Highway intersection upgrades.

It’s important to note today’s announcement isn’t about funding individual projects — it’s about making sure we have the right framework and priorities in place so future investment delivers the best outcomes for the Hunter.
