Today CDC NSW announced the official launch of its state-wide Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program, a vital initiative designed to assist passengers living with non-visible disabilities.

Passengers have the option to wear or display a sunflower lanyard, discreetly signalling to drivers and staff they may require additional support, patience, or assistance during their journey.

Non-visible disabilities can include conditions such as autism, anxiety disorders, chronic pain, dementia, learning difficulties, and many others not immediately apparent but can significantly impact daily activities like using public transport.

CDC NSW drivers and customer service staff across the state have received specialised training to recognise the sunflower symbol and provide appropriate support, such as allowing extra time for boarding, offering clearer communication, or providing assistance with validation and wayfinding.

Sunflower lanyards are available across all depots. The program is entirely voluntary, and passengers can choose whether to participate.

For more information about the Sunflower Program or to request a sunflower lanyard, visit https://www.cdcbus.com.au or contact your local depot.
