Yesterday I visited Deaves Road alongside Federal member for Hunter, Dan Repacholi MP and Adam Shultz - Mayor of Lake Macquarie to announce a long-awaited $8.7 million funding package to flood-proof the increasingly important transport link.

The federal government has pledged $4.6 million to the upgrade with State Government adding $4.1 million.

Lake Macquarie City Council will deliver the work which began with site setup in mid-February and is expected to be finished and open to traffic in April 2027, weather permitting.

Deaves Road has been prone to flooding for many years, and residents in the growing community needs this vital connection to function reliably in any weather.

The south Lake Macquarie region will continue to develop, with population expected to almost double by 2046. Ongoing investment is needed to keep our community resilient.

Next job priority... (still) Mandalong Road
