A special day for our two newest firefighters - Rego Mahmoud and Matthew Louden
17th April 2026
A really special day in Sydney attending the graduation of two new firefighters, Rego Mahmoud and Matthew Louden, with Fire and Rescue NSW.
Rego’s journey is something worth recognising. Originally from Egypt, he has recently become an Australian citizen and chosen to call Lake Macquarie home. Today, he steps into a role where he gives back to that same community by protecting lives and helping others in their most difficult moments.
With his family unable to be there, it was important to me that Rego knew he’s not alone. He has a community around him that supports him and is proud of what he’s achieved.
At the same time, a big congratulations to Matthew Louden. Matt is a true Morisset local, a young man giving back to his community. Lovely to meet his parents who have given him so much support. These milestones are never achieved alone.
Becoming a firefighter takes courage, commitment, and a genuine desire to serve others.
Both Rego and Matthew represent what’s great about our community. People who step up, give back, and help keep others safe.
Congratulations to you both. Lake Macquarie is proud.
