First look at 2026 - 2027 NSW Budget

As expected, this was a restrained State Budget with much-needed cost-of-living relief, focusing on fuel and transport savings. This includes rego fees being slashed by $100 for cars and $80 for motorcycles, along with a 12-month freeze on Opal fares.

But what’s in it for Lake Mac? Key commitments include:

Cooranbong Public School relocation and a co-located public early learning centre, with $3.7 million allocated this year

Release of remaining funds for the delivery of the $16m Speers Point roundabout upgrade (finally!)

Release of $11m to progress the Mandalong Road upgrade

Funding for HNELHD Mental Health Service and Awabakal Medical Service

$1m to plan for future pediatric oncology services in HNELHD

Release of $1.1m for planning of $40.4 million Morisset Sports Facility

Release of $2.2b over the next 4 years for construction of Hunter Transmission Project

10 school crossing supervisors for Lake Mac schools, to increase road safety

Other Statewide projects set to benefit our community include an investment in rail reliability, a teacher pay rise and increased funding for frontline domestic and family violence services. I’m also hopeful the commitment to further M1 Pacific Motorway upgrades will deliver for Lake Mac commuters.
