Tribute: Dylan Bolch

21st September 2017

Mr GREG PIPER ( Lake Macquarie ) ( 16:56 ): I acknowledge the achievements of Dylan Bolch, who is a wonderful example of the fantastic young tradespeople we have in Lake Macquarie.

From the suburb of Woodrising, Dylan is a 22-year-old welder who has been chosen to join an elite team of young tradespeople to represent Australia at the WorldSkills international competition in Abu Dhabi in October.

Dylan learned his trade at the Tighes Hill campus of TAFE and is now employed by Macquarie Manufacturing at Rathmines.

More than 3,000 participants from 77 countries will compete in the Abu Dhabi competition for which Dylan has taken on an arduous training schedule and skills improvement program with two highly regarded mentors since winning a national welding title in Melbourne last year.

Lake Macquarie is fortunate to have a highly skilled workforce in manufacturing and the traditional trades, and Dylan's skills are reflective of a new generation that will make sure we will continue to have a skilled workforce in our region. I am pleased to recognise Dylan's efforts in this Parliament.
