Read the news from the October sitting period.
We’ve just wrapped on the October sitting weeks in NSW Parliament and, with only the November sitting weeks left before the election in March, things have ramped right up!
Public Interest Debates
- My Public Interest Debate motion on the need for more investment in public healthcare outside of metropolitan cities passed unanimously. More below.
- I also spoke on a Public Interest Debate in support of train manufacturing in the Hunter, the very same day I welcomed the Premier to Teralba to announce Macquarie Coal mine as the preferred site for the Future Fleet Facility.
Spoke in support of several important Bills which:
- vest the State’s firefighting fleet in the Rural Fire Service rather than council (passed Parliament!)
- create the Great Koala National Park (passed parliament)
- amend the laws relating to serious road crimes (Currently in the Upper House)
- allow terramation, also known as natural organic reduction or human body composting, as an option after death (passed Parliament!)
- prioritise local businesses, manufacturing and workers in government procurement (passed Parliament!)
We saw the Future Jobs and Investment Bill 2025 FINALLY pass the NSW Parliament on 20 October.
Held meetings with Wesley Mission about gambling reform, including a mandatory shutdown period, and Guide Dogs NSW/ACT about an Assistance Dog Access Framework to protect against access refusals and discrimination.
I also hosted Wangi Rathmines Ladies Probus Club, U3A and Survivors R Us for tours of the NSW Parliament, and attended the Pharmacy Guild Awards and met everyone’s favourite Giraffe, Healthy Harold!
In response to recent announcements and advocacy from Lake Macquarie City Council, I wrote to the Minister for Local Government about the proposed redistribution of the NSW Government Financial Assistance Grants, which would have seen Lake Macquarie City Council’s funding significantly cut over the next decade.
Our city is growing and needs the funding for additional services and infrastructure to support more people, housing and industry. I welcome the decision of the NSW Government for the existing methodology to continue to apply.
