Here's some of the things I got up to in NSW Parliament this sitting week.
I gave a speech with my thoughts on the draft master plan released for Glencore’s Macquarie Mine, which is open for community feedback until 11 August. This is a huge opportunity for our region, particularly it presents a unique prospect for train manufacturing after Labor's commitment to reestablishing the industry in the Hunter. Hosted with local tour groups from Heritage College Lake Macquarie and Rathmines Classic Boat Association, who had the opportunity to see the bear pit in action during Question Time!
Met with the Office of Sport about the Morisset Sports Facility, to check in and do what I can to keep this project, which is so significant to Lake Macquarie, front and centre for the NSW Government. Progress has been at a frustratingly slow pace but we are still proceeding at a magnificent site. The Morisset Hospital precinct's future will be subject to further discussion and community consultation as mental health services are scheduled to depart to a new mental health care facility in Maitland in late 2027.
Was briefed by EnergyCo on the Hunter Central Coast REZ. An access scheme is currently being considered, and my input into this consultation will stress the importance of ensuring strong outcomes for people and workers in Lake Macquarie, as a community which is bearing the human cost of the energy transition and burden of new infrastructure.
