The Bill has finally passed NSW Parliament.
Almost a year after its introduction, and 7 months since it passed the LA with my amendments, the FJI Bill passed NSW Parliament yesterday.
I’ve talked to anyone who will listen about the urgency of this Bill. I even called on the Legislative Council to pass the Bill in June. Coal regions have been begging for structured support so our workers, local businesses and communities can adapt and continue to thrive.
We want to keep our communities together and kids close to home. To do that, there needs to be a clear plan to attract investment and stable, well-paying jobs.
This Bill is important for the Hunter, and particularly for southern Lake Macquarie as we face the closure of Eraring Power Station and Myuna Colliery in 2029.
It’s a relief this Bill has finally passed. Now we can get working on the detail of the regulations.
Thank you to all those who raised concerns with me about the Bill and its delay including Hunter Jobs Alliance, Hunter Renewal, Hunter Community Alliance and Hunter Joint Organisation.
